Replacing old windows with aluminium

Many Cape Town homes still have their original steel or timber windows. Steel frames rust, especially near the sea, and timber frames rot, swell and need painting. Older aluminium windows can also be worth replacing when the frames are damaged or the style no longer suits the house.

We take out the old frames and fit new aluminium windows made to the measured size of each opening, in any frame colour. You can keep the same style of window or change it, for example from small steel panes to larger side hung or top hung windows.

How a window replacement works

  1. Measure each opening We visit, measure every opening and talk through the window styles and colours. A call-out fee of R200 applies only if you do not accept the quote.
  2. Written quotation You get a quotation covering the windows, glass, removal of the old frames and installation. Quotations are free.
  3. Remove the old frames Steel and timber frames are usually built into the wall, so the plaster around them is opened up to take them out.
  4. Fit and seal the new windows Each new frame is fixed level and square, glazed and sealed against wind and rain.
  5. Make good The plaster and sills around the new frames are made good, and the protective tape comes off when we hand over.

If the openings change size, for example to fit a larger window, the building work is discussed and quoted before anything starts.

Choosing your new windows

Most replacements use one of three aluminium window styles:

Our guide to choosing an aluminium window style compares them in more detail, and the price guide gives typical price ranges.

Will the walls be damaged?

Do the new windows carry a warranty?

Yes. The windows and hardware we supply carry their suppliers’ warranties.

Is there a call-out fee?
