Common aluminium door and window faults
Aluminium frames last a long time, but the parts that move wear out. Typical faults include:
- Sliding doors that are heavy to move or jump off the track, usually from worn rollers or a damaged track
- Locks and handles that are stiff, broken or no longer line up with the keep
- Folding door hinges and runners that have worn or come out of adjustment
- Window stays and friction hinges that no longer hold a sash open
- Perished rubber and brush seals that let in draughts, dust and rain
- Blocked drainage holes that let water collect in the sill

How a repair call-out works
Tell us what is wrong, which suburb the property is in and, if you can, send a photo of the problem. We come out, find the cause and quote for the repair.
Quotations are free. A call-out fee of R200 applies only if you do not accept the quote.
Replacement parts carry their suppliers’ warranties.
Repair or replace?
Most faults on moving parts can be repaired. When a frame is badly corroded, bent or out of square, a repair may not last, and replacing the door or window can make more sense. If that is the case, we will tell you and quote for both so you can decide. See aluminium doors and aluminium windows for replacements.
Many faults can be prevented with a little regular care. Our guide to caring for aluminium near the sea covers cleaning tracks, clearing drainage and looking after rollers and seals.
